HOPPER HAIKU - SONGS INSPIRED BY THE PAINTINGS OF EDWARD HOPPER

Charles Library  |  Temple University  |  1900 N. 13th Street, Philadelphia

HOPPER HAIKU, an art song collection written and performed by Ellen Mandel and Daniel Neer, is inspired by the artwork of American realist painter Edward Hopper, providing a musical voice to the characters and environments depicted in Hopper’s iconic works. Set to narrative haiku by lyricist Daniel Neer, Ellen Mandel’s jazzy musical settings for piano and voice provide a soundtrack to the urban isolation and gritty landscape of twentieth century America, and explore the complexities of isolationism and human connection in modern society.
